The words ‘arcade’ and ‘cafe’ are rarely used in the same sentence, but there’s a place in West London where this interesting mix is not only applicable, but celebrated. Chief Coffee is a seemingly unassuming cafe tucked away from the bustling high street of Turnham Green. Boasting a naturally lit, open seating area and free wifi, this is a favourite for both locals and digital nomads.

I had heard of Chief Coffee a number of times before visiting as they’ve been named one of London’s best coffee shops multiple times by Time Out London. A five minute walk from the Turnham Green tube station, the cafe is easily accessible to anyone in the area, and they’re open until 5:30 / 6:00 seven days a week, which makes it a great location for people working remotely.

Just a few steps up and through the main door, you will find the heart of the establishment. The natural light pouring in from the large window floods the seating area and highlights the great view towards the high street. The baristas are incredibly friendly, talented people with very high coffee standards – they automatically put a double shot into the drinks so you have enough pep-in-your-step (or in your fingers) to get your work done. I ordered a mocha to drink while I worked, which was the perfect mix of chocolate and coffee.

However, Chief Coffee has a surprising twist. As you head down the stairs from the main floor, you’ll find yourself in a late 90’s-style game lounge with a total of eight pinball machines entirely at your disposal. This area is also accessible from the outside via the side door, so you can skip the coffee small-talk and head straight to the games!

Don’t worry if pinball and coffee isn’t for you because Chief Coffee has another secret. Just upstairs from the main floor is Chief’s recent addition – a room full of a variety of popular Japanese arcade games. This is perfect for working off your caffeine-induced high, a little outing with the kids, or just to have a bit of fun with your friends.

Chief Coffee caters to everything. Catching up with friends? Chief’s coffee and baked goods will keep the munchies away. On a date? Chat for a while in the cafe to break the ice before heading upstairs to the arcade. Have a deadline coming up? Take advantage of Chief’s free wifi and comfortable environment to power through your work.

Chief’s Coffee is truly Turnham Green’s best kept secret. They cater to everyone – locals and travellers, individuals and families. I highly recommend stopping in for a visit.
